FAQ
What is Savigne by Planet of the Grapes®?
Savigne is a biomaterial developed from grape marc, a by-product of winemaking. We transform this abundant, natural resource into innovative, animal-free materials designed for applications across fashion, shoes, accessories, interiors and automotive industries.
What is Savigne Made From?
Savigne by Planet of the Grapes® is a new-generation material made using grape marc - the skins, seeds and stalks remaining after grapes are pressed during winemaking.
Through our proprietary material development processes, grape marc is carefully prepared and combined with bio-based binders to create unique material formulations. Different production techniques and textile structures provide strength, stability and flexibility to the finished material.
These different approaches allow us to create a family of Savigne materials, each with its own character, texture, handle and finish, opening up possibilities across a wide range of applications.
Where does the grape marc come from?
Grape marc is the first raw material ingredient in the development of Savigne by Planet of the Grapes®. We source it directly from organic and biodynamic vineyards in Provence, in the South of France, working closely with local winegrowers and winemakers.
Traditionally, grape marc has a number of uses, from distillation into spirits to composting and other agricultural applications. At Planet of the Grapes, we explore its potential as a valuable ingredient in the creation of new-generation materials.
Is Savigne suitable for my product?

Can I request a sample?
Yes. We encourage designers and brands to explore the materials through samples before progressing a project. Get in touch with details of your application and we'll help identify the most relevant material to explore.
Can I get technical information about the materials?
Yes of course. Technical information is available for our materials, including relevant performance and testing information. Contact us to request the technical information relevant to your application. You can find these for each Savigne expression here, or contact our team.
Are Savigne materials tested?
Yes. Savigne materials undergo independent laboratory testing to evaluate their performance, durability and suitability for different applications.
Tests include abrasion resistance, flex resistance, colour fastness to rubbing, water resistance and lightfastness, with additional testing carried out according to specific industry requirements.
Technical specifications and test results are available upon request, depending on the material and its intended application.
Can Savigne be produced at scale?
Yes. Our development process progresses from initial samples, through to small-batch development and then onto industrial production or directly to industrial production. If you have a specific production requirement, get in touch so we can discuss the project and its requirements.
What is the minimum order quantity?
